SPACE energy Vitamin C is pure l-ascorbate or Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic Acid (C6H8O6) is the natural and most common form of vitamin C. It is an essential nutrient for human beings. People who receive no ascorbic acid become sick and die. (Linus Pauling - Vitamin C and the Common Cold, 1970)

Pure Ascorbic Acid is the preferred form recommended by the Vitamin C Foundation.

According to Dr Robert Cathcart, mineral ascorbates (e.g. sodium ascorbate, calcium ascorbate) have slower absorption, and twice as much is required for the same therapeutic effect. Mineral ascorbates also release the bound mineral to the body, which may cause imbalance. See article  "The Gift of Vitamin C" for more information of forms of Ascorbate and potential implications of mineral ascorbates, but also benefits of.

Ascorbic Acid is a powerful antioxidant that may provide protection from many modern diseases.  Benefits may include: growth and repair of tissue throughout the body, wound healing, and skin health.  (Vitamin C is essential for collagen production).

Toxins take a great toll on the body (e.g. alcohol, smoking, artificial food preservatives and flavour enhancers).  The more toxins you are exposed to, the greater the benefit of higher doses of Vitamin C you will receive.

Deficiency of Ascorbic Acid

A better way to review the benefits of Ascorbic acid is to consider what happens when the body does not get enough.

Symptoms may include: weakness, paleness, sunken eyes, tender swollen and bleeding gums, muscular pain, reopening of old wounds or sores, bruising easily, nose bleeds, weight loss, increased heart rate, fever, irritability, aching and swollen joints, muscle pain, shortness of breath, fatigue.

In the final stage of Vitamin C deficiency, scurvy sets in - the body literally falls apart as collagen is broken down, tendons shrivel and weaken, joints fall apart as their cartilage withers away (painful joints), gums rupture, protruding from the mouth, teeth fall out (bleeding gums), blood vessels disintegrate (easy bruising and bleeding), healed scars break open (slow wound healing),  - in the end, death is seen as a mercy for those afflicted by scurvy.

(side note:  In Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's (Nobel Prize winner for Literature 1970) book The Gulag Archipelago, the two ways you would die in the soviet concentration camps (gulags), other than by violent means, was either by scurvy or pellagra (Niacin deficiency).

The importance of supplementing with Ascorbic Acid

Vitamin C is critical for health and wellbeing.  We are told that the best source of vitamin C is from fresh fruit and vegetables, but how much Vitamin C are we now receiving from this source?  What is the impact of cooking the vegetables on Vitamin C?  How long is our fruit now being stored before purchase?  How green is our fruit being picked? (nutrient content?) and then artificially ripened?  What coatings are being applied to our fruit? (apples have edible wax coating applied)   (see: Why are there Fewer Nutrients in Our Food?).

We believe that the only way to be certain that you are receiving enough Ascorbic Acid to OPTIMISE MIND | BODY | SPIRIT is to supplement with a high quality pure Ascorbic Acid - SPACE energy pure Ascorbic Acid.

Suggested Maintenance Dose

For maintenance dose take one to three times per day evenly spaced Adults 1000 to 5000mg one to three times daily.  Or as recommended by your healthcare professional.

The pioneers of Vitamin C therapy commonly recommend taking Ascorbic Acid to bowel tolerance.  An excellent editorial "The Gift of Vitamin C" is worth a read if you are looking for guidance.

(Side note:  For maintenance, Ian takes 5000mg three times per day - 15,000mg/day; Scott takes 2000mg three times per day - 6,000mg/day)

Increase in Times of Stress

At the first time you are coming down with some kind of malaise, then the frequency (hourly, half-hourly) of dosing can be increased above your maintenance dosing to nip the symptoms in the bud.

An excellent article written by Dr Cathcart "The Method of Determining Proper Doses of Vitamin C for the Treatment of Disease by Titrating to Bowel Tolerance" provides an excellent paper for further reading on dosing with Ascorbic Acid for the treatment of various disease states.

(Side Note: Ian & Scott will significantly increase Ascorbic dose and frequency if any little sign of some dis-ease shows.)

Taking Vitamin C to Bowel Tolerance

For those who do not have the time to read the above linked papers regarding bowel tolerance (which are must reads) following is a brief explanation.

Vitamin C can be taken at any time.  For maintenance we have found that equal doses 3 times per day following meals is best for convenience and compliance.

If you find yourself getting abdominal discomfort (excessive gas, rumbling stomach, diarrhoea, simply go back to the amount you were taking before you encountered problems and use this as your maintenance dose.

Most people can tolerate doses of around 10-20 grams per day, and many, even higher doses.  It appears to be dependant on the underlying need the body may have for Vitamin C.  We have also found that if your diet has been particularly toxic (e.g. too much alcohol or junk food) then bowel irritation can occur.

Preparation

Mix with a suitable amount of water and stir

Measurement Conversions

1 teaspoon (5ml) = 5000mg

½ teaspoon (2.5ml) = 2500mg

¼ teaspoon (1.25ml) = 1250mg

⅛ teaspoon (0.625ml) = 625mg

Higher doses of Vitamin C can lead to bowel discomfort and diarrhoea in some individuals. This is known as bowel tolerance. Simply reduce amounts if this occurs to bowel tolerance.

Again see article "The Gift of Vitamin C" for more information about bowel tolerance, as well as "The Method of Determining Proper Doses of Vitamin C for the Treatment of Disease by Titrating to Bowel Tolerance"
